Several myths on India’s COVID19 vaccination program

Several myths on India’s COVID19 vaccination program are doing the rounds. These myths are arising due to distorted statements, half-truths and blatant lies. Member (Health) in NITI Aayog Dr Vinod Paul addresses these myths and gives out facts on all these issues

Dr VK Paul, member NITI Aayog, busts myths on India's vaccination process

1st:- Myth Centre hasn't approved vaccines available globally

Centre has proactively eased entry of vaccines approved by US FDA, EMA, UK's MHRA, Japan's PMDA and WHO's Emergency Use Listing into India in April. These won't need to undergo prior bridging trials The provision has now been further amended to waive off the trial requirement altogether for the well-established vaccines manufactured in other countries. No application of any foreign manufacturer for approval is pending with the drugs controller

2nd :-Myth Centre abdicated its responsibility to states

Centre doing all heavy-lifting, from funding vaccine manufacturers to giving them quick approvals to ramping up production to bringing foreign vaccines. Vaccine is supplied wholly to states for free admn All this is very much in the knowledge of the states. GoI has merely enabled states to try procuring vaccines on their own, on their explicit requests

3rd :- Myth Centre isn't giving enough vaccines to states

Centre allotting enough vaccines to states in transparent manner as per agreed guidelines. States being informed in advance of vaccine availability. Vaccine availability going to increase in near future

4th:- Myth Centre is not taking any step to vaccinate children

As of now, no country in the world is giving vaccines to children. Also, WHO has no recommendation on vaccinating children. There have been encouraging studies about safety of vaccines in children

Trials in children in India going to begin soon. However, vaccinating children shouldn't be decided on basis of panic in Whatsapp and because some politicians want to play politics. It has to be a decision by scientists after adequate data available based on trials
