Tornado touched down in Newnan, Georgia, after midnight
A powerful tornado touched down in Newnan, Georgia, after midnight on Friday, shredding residential neighborhoods and the city’s downtown.
The destruction comes after a swath of the southeast was hit on Thursday by tornadoes, hail and heavy rainfall.
Based on information we have, Newnan, GA tornado was probably a EF3 - EF4 tornado. It appears rescuers can’t get to people. Seems like tornado took a track over a lot of houses, unfortunately a lot are probably injured. Also it was night time tornado, most were sleeping.
The city experienced heavy damage in and around the historic downtown area due to tonight’s weather. Please note that both the city and county crews are in route and working on scene to clear impacted areas. Please remain safe in your homes and take shelter.
